Queens University of Charlotte Class of 2015, Bachelor of Science in Public Health
Hi Everyone and welcome to my online E-portfolio! This is my professional website for my Graduation with Leadership Distinction in Research.
My name is Vanessa Grout and I decided to attend the University of South Carolina Lancaster campus in hopes to attain a second Bachelor of Science degree and to become a Registered Nurse. My current degree in Public Health helped influence my decision to pursue Graduation with Leadership Distinction. I will be graduating this May 2018 with an Associate in Science degree with Graduation in Leadership Distinction in Research. Upon graduating with an Associate in Science degree, I will be continuing my work in Professional and Civic Engagement as a Bachelor of Science in Nursing student while at USC in August 2018. I believe that Research as well as Professional and Civic Engagement can contribute to the overall health and wellness of the community in which we live and serve as future healthcare professionals.
My involvement in undergraduate research and decision to pursue Graduation with Leadership Distinction was also influenced by my belief that the purpose of research is for social utility and to benefit of the majority of the population as well as the belief that knowledge is power.
I also strongly believe that individuals can strive to become the best version of themselves not necessarily to achieve self-actualization but to experience self-discovery whether it is through pursuing higher learning, global and cultural awareness, or self-awareness through a form of art.
In addition, I believe that health promotion and education can help improve quality of life and also maximize health and wellness of an individual.
I have provided memorable within the classroom experiences in courses where I completed research projects, presentations on health promotion and education, as well as course assignments that include theories or concepts which helped influence my Key Insights. I have provided beyond the classroom experiences during my time in this institution that have allowed me to disseminate knowledge through providing lecture presentations on various health topics, to teach blood pressure and heart rate measuring skills to an introductory exercise science class, and to promote health and wellness through education in our school campus or in the community. I have also provided beyond the classroom learning experiences as part of Research club that have inspired my Key insights and my love for learning.
Upon completing the Senior Capstone Experience course and presenting my research at USC Discover DAY in April 2018, I plan on continuing to work on my research in hopes of publishing my findings in the CARAVEL student journal. I also plan on furthering my education by attending graduate school particularly to become a nurse practitioner that specializes in Family Medicine.
Thank you!
